Reverend Doctor Bob Estling
Rev. Dr. Robert Stanwood Estling was born on January 22, 1943 in Twin Falls, Idaho. He grew up in Walla Walla, WA, and received a BA in education from Washington State University, and then studied art at the graduate level there. He taught art to young students in rural Washington, and on one memorable occasion took a group of them to the ďbig cityĒ (Seattle) for sightseeing, a ferry ride, and a dining-out adventure that most of them had never experienced. Bob was a progressive and humanitarian individual, raised by parents who were ahead of their time. They were vegetarians in the 1930s and Bobís dad, Al, was a conscientious objector during WWII, serving in the medical corps. Al was also one of the earliest students of A Course in Miracles. Through their efforts, Bob was taught respect for all life and respect and caring for the various religious traditions through which humankind has sought the Divine throughout the ages.
Bob became a teacher and lecturer with The Inner Peace Movement during the late 60s and early 70s, and traveled the United States, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas, introducing many seekers to spirituality. Bob and his wife, Janet, married in the late 70s. Together, they lived in Chicago, Coconut Grove (Miami), and Gainesville, Florida, where Bob undertook a demanding management position with the University of Florida, and they raised their three boys. On weekends, Bob and his family enjoyed outings on their 23 ft. sailboat, The Ibis, and group sailing with the Gulf-Atlantic Yacht Club, of which Bob was commodore during one term. In the 1980s and 1990s, Bob continued his own spiritual search by teaching students, and facilitating ACIM groups. He also led a class of seekers on a memorable trip to Greece, and began to formulate plans for his own Light center, later to be known as The Seraphim Center. Through Bobís remarkable diligence, patience, and leadership, he made The Seraphim Center a reality in the 1990s, and it continues as a vital spiritual Light Center today.
Rev. Dr. Bob was an extraordinary spiritual pioneer, teacher and role model, touching the lives of many, many people with his caring and insight. Today, thousands of students lovingly refer to his inspired ministry as one of the most significant and positive influences in their entire lives. Though Rev. Dr. Bob passed on in December, 2011 his beloved Center continues his work, a tribute to his vision, and a living legacy to the profound inspiration of his lifeís work and dream.
